Picking my 100 favorite films was hard enough. Ranking them? Impossible.
Therefore I'll be presenting them in alphabetical order. Also, very important to note...quoting the amazing Priscilla Page -
"...first and foremost, I never intend for this list to be an objective, declarative statement on film... I just want to share what I loved, what moved me, what helped me, what was fun to watch — in short, the movies I want other people to get their eyeballs on if they haven’t already."
Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)
 |
My favorite John Hughes movie. Laugh-out-loud funny, with pitch perfect performances from both Steve Martin and especially John Candy. |
Pulp Fiction (1994)
 |
For a film student who had just moved to Los Angeles a couple months before Pulp Fiction hit screens, I was the exact audience this film was aimed at. I still think it's one of QT's better films. |
Purple Rain (1984)
 |
Is the acting a bit amateurish at times? Yes. Is some of the dialog on the nose and sometimes stiff? Sure. WHO CARES? The music performances alone are worth the price of admission. If you get a chance to see this film on the big screen - do not pass it up! |
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
 |
My god, was this really 41 years ago? It still holds up. The balance of fun and adventure is perfect. And what an opening! |
Raging Bull (1980)
 |
Not sure what to say about this one. Certainly De Niro's performance alone is reason to watch, but there's so much being said without saying anything. It's quite remarkable. It's a film that can leave you weeping and you won't know exactly why. It affects you on a deeper level. When people wonder why I love Scorsese films more than Spielberg - this is a perfect example why. Had Spielberg directed this he'd have audiences crying too, but there'd be no doubt whatsoever why. I prefer Scorsese's approach. |
