100 Favorite Films: The African Queen to Aviator

Picking my 100 favorite films was hard enough.  Ranking them?  Impossible.

Therefore I'll be presenting them in alphabetical order.  Also, very important to note...quoting the amazing Priscilla Page -

"...first and foremost, I never intend for this list to be an objective, declarative statement on film... I just want to share what I loved, what moved me, what helped me, what was fun to watch — in short, the movies I want other people to get their eyeballs on if they haven’t already."

The African Queen (1951)

Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn in glorious technicolor. What more could anyone ask for?

Amélie (2001)

Wonderful things can happen when an experimental filmmaker tries their hand at a commercial film.

American Beauty (1999)

A terrific film with outstanding performances across the board. If you don't slow down and appreciate things in your life after this film you may be broken.

Apocalypse Now (1979)

From the opening scene Francis Ford Coppola let's us know were in for a crazy ride. Art film meets war film. It's pure genius and pushes the envelope of art, technology and film making. It was the first film to make full use of the new Dolby Surround format and Walter Murch's sound design is outstanding. Crank it up! Make a whole night event of it and follow this with the Hearts of Darkness documentary. It'll make you appreciate Apocalypse Now (and Francis Coppola) even more.

The Aviator (2004)

The first of many films by Martin Scorsese that will make this list. I'm a sucker for a biopic as well. Leonardo DiCaprio leads a great cast as Howard Hughes. Cate Blanchett is stand out as Katherine Hepburn.
