100 Favorite Films: Close Encounters of the Third Kind to Die Hard

Picking my 100 favorite films was hard enough.  Ranking them?  Impossible.

Therefore I'll be presenting them in alphabetical order.  Also, very important to note...quoting the amazing Priscilla Page -

"...first and foremost, I never intend for this list to be an objective, declarative statement on film... I just want to share what I loved, what moved me, what helped me, what was fun to watch — in short, the movies I want other people to get their eyeballs on if they haven’t already."

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

Remember when Steven Spielberg was really, really good?

The Conversation (1974)

The Godfather II and this film came out the same year. Are you kidding me? Francis Ford Coppola was on FIRE!

Dances With Wolves (1990)

I know Kevin Costner has a lot of haters out there, but this is actually a darn fine film. Gorgeous photography by Dean Semler. If you don't get at least a little misty at the end you truly have no heart.

The Dark Knight (2008)

Saw this in 15/70 IMAX and my mind was blown. The scenes shot with the IMAX cameras are breathtaking. That said it truly spoiled me for seeing this movie in any other format. My 65" TV just doesn't do it. Great superhero movie and Heath Ledger's performance isn't hype - he's really that good in this.

Die Hard (1988)

Another "modern' classic. Joel Silver changed the entire action film genre with this (and Lethal Weapon) film. Watch an "action" film pre-Die Hard and you'll be hard pressed to use the word "action" to describe it.

See you next week.
